Young Bonding in 2008

Welcome to 2008, a year that promises to be a HUGE year for the Bond fan. Not only do we have a new film coming out in November, but there is an avalanche of new James Bond books ready to pour forth from Ian Fleming Publications and their publishing partners. Below is a list of the (announced) Young Bond releases fans can look forward to in 2008.

Reden ist Silber, Schweigen ist tödlich

Hurricane Gold makes its first non-English appearance in Germany in February 2008 as Reden ist Silber, Schweigen ist tödlich (Talk is Silver, Silence is Deadly). The book will be published as a hardcover (a first for a Young Bond novel in Germany) and, like the UK edition, will get the all-gold treatment. Amazon.de

Goldenboy audiobook

German publisher Arena plans to release the audiobook edition of Goldenboy (Double or Die) in February. As with the other German audiobooks, Goldenboy will be read by actor Rufus Beck. Amazon.de

Double or Die U.S. edition

The third Young Bond adventure finally makes it to America on April 13. Charlie Higson's Double or Die will be published as a hardcover by Hyperion Books for Children and an audiobook by Random House. The book sports cool new atmospheric cover art by artist Kev Walker. Says Charlie Higson, "Double or Die is a new start for Young Bond in the states and I’m very excited about its release.” Amazon.com

Bound Bond: Ian Fleming & The Art of Cover Design

This exhibit, which will be on show at the Fleming Collection gallery from 22 April to 28 June 2008, charts the role of artists and designers in creating and defining the Bond look, including the Young Bond series. No word yet if there will be an accompanying book...but here's hoping!

French Hurricane Gold

Gallimard Jeunesse will release Hurricane Gold in France under the title Menace sur l'Eldorado (Threat on the El Dorado) on April 24.

Devil May Care

Okay, this isn’t Young Bond related, but how can we not mention the return of the adult James Bond 007 in Sebastian Faulks Devil May Care. The book will be released worldwide on May 28. Says Charlie Higson, “I’m really excited to see what Sebastian Faulks has done with it and what he’ll come up with. I think that’s going to be a really terrific book.” Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com

Hurricane Gold paperback

Charlie Higson's golden 2007 bestseller Hurricane Gold will be published in paperback with slick new cover art to match the other paperbacks in the series on May 28. Amazon.co.uk

Gevaarlijk Spel (Dangerous Game)

Charlie Higson’s third Young Bond novel Double or Die will be published in The Netherlands as Gevaarlijk Spel (Dangerous Game) by Pimento kinderboeken in May.

SilverFin Graphic Novel

James Bond returns to the world of graphic novels in the hugely anticipated adaptation of the first Young Bond novel SilverFin by Charlie Higson. With artwork by Kev Walker, this is a must buy on September 4. Amazon.co.uk

Young Bond 5

The concluding book in the Young Bond series comes out in hardcover in the UK on September 4. The plot will involve German and Russian spies and will “burn a few bridges.” Of all his books, Charlie says this one will be the most “Bond-like” in themes and scoop. “There’s a little bit of everything in Book 5,” says the author. Working title: The Shadow War. I'm betting this will be the Bond book to beat in 2008.
